Learn how artists and designers use software to digitally draw and paint, compose posters, magazine covers and advertisements, creatively create and manipulate photographic images, and be innovative in the way they use type. Become an expert with Photoshop and explore Illustrator and InDesign. Learn about colour theory and important design strategies. Students create an individual portfolio, which they may use for future employment/education opportunities.
In this class you will also learn how to creatively problem solve and tackle artistic challenges, while learning life-long skills such as persistence, reflection, observation, and self-critique. You will explore the world of graphic artist/designer.
Graphic art is distinct from other art traditions because graphic art pieces: 1) Consist of both images and words 2) Are designed with an intentional message for a specific target audience
You’ll become comfortable with the computer and other common digital technologies such as drawing tablets, inkjet printers, using your camera to take effective photographs for design. We will mostly use Adobe Photoshop, although some basic Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign skills will be taught.
