1. SKETCHBOOK: GATHERING INFORMATION
- Choose a recipe
- Consider how many "parts" the recipe has - divide your paper into that amount of parts
- Write down the ingredients into the proper "parts"
- Next to the ingredients, draw examples of what that ingredient can look like
- Write down KEY steps in the recipe and things you will need (ie. pot or pan, mixer, stove, fridge, blender, spatula, etc)
- Next to these items, draw examples of what the item can look like
- Choose your favourite example of each ingredient and item to use in a rough draft
- Your title for your recipe must be hand-lettered - do a couple of roughs on how you want that to look
- Show to Ms. S for approval
Examples below:
3. PHOTOSHOP - STEPS TO FOLLOW...
- Open your scanned document in Photoshop
- DUPLICATE the background layer and make a background copy. HIDE the original background layer
- Using the MAGIC WAND, select the white space on your document and press DELETE (this will place all of your images on a transparent background)
- Choose any selection tool (lasso, rectangle marquee) and select one of your images
- RIGHT click on the selection and choose LAYER VIA COPY
- Hide your background layer and check your new image layer to make sure that there are no other areas that need to be deleted in it
- Rename the layer for the object/ingredient that it is
- Repeat steps 3-7 until you have all of your images cut out into new layers
4. PUTTING YOUR RECIPE TOGETHER
- Open a new document 11x17 (horizontal or vertical is up to you)
- Drag your watercolour items from the layers in the previous document into the new document
- Using your knowledge of font, pairing, alignment, contrast and repetition - write the steps (point form) and ingredients next to/under/over the drawings
- You can include little illustrations of arrows and other smaller doodles to "fill up" some of the empty space - use the drawing tablets or brush tool in Photoshop
- Things like paint splatter look good as well - you can search for "free to use PNG paint splatter" or watercolour splashes to use as well
- Don't forget to include your recipe title!
5. HANDING IT IN
You must hand in:
- PSD file with ALL LAYERS NAMED
- JPG
- All image files sorted and named
- Everything in ONE folder labelled with YOUR NAME!
